Students apply for a student credit cards primarily for one purpose to enjoy convenience and ease in their transactions. Today, the concept of quick and easy transactions is now being introduced in schools and colleges in the US through the cashless payment systems.
If youre not familiar with cashless payment systems, you may be surprised that this mode of payment does not involve cash at all. Students do not need to fall in a long anymore just to wait for their turn to pay. With this new payment system, students simply have their fingerprints scanned and check out with their lunches.
This new system uses biometric fingerprint scanners to identify and pull up the students account. Afterwards, the amount of purchase will be automatically debited from the students personal account so theres no need to fumble for cash and wait for a change.
Other schools also use other devices such as credit card readers and bar-code readers just like the ones used in department stores and groceries. As a result, each transaction does not need to take longer than a minute or even just a few seconds.
According to the May 2007 survey conducted by the School Nutrition Association,- a non-profit group that represents 55,000 school lunch providers in the US, about 62% of 1, 200 nutrition directors reported that theyre already implementing the automated lunch payment system in their schools or a variation of the cashless payment system.
In the same survey, 4% said they would be implementing the automated lunch system within the next 12 months and almost 11% said they are planning to convert to the new system. Because of the positive response among school administrations and students, automated lunch payment systems are expected to become a part of the industry.

In this economy, it is not always easy for middle school students to find a way to pay for their annual field trip. Most middle school students try to finance their educational outings with bake sales and magazine subscriptions, supplemented by donations from the parent-teacher organization and a healthy contribution from parents. Students and faculty at Port Charlotte Middle School, though, decided they needed to find another way. They began holding an annual garage sale every January – though to be accurate, it is really a cafeteria and multipurpose room sale.
This year’s garage sale was held on Saturday, January 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the middle school, and between 300 and 400 people attended. The sale garnered $2500 for the 7th grade field trip, according to geography teacher Barbara Davis.
This year, the annual 7th grade field trip will be to Epcot Center. Any leftover funds will be used to help pay for other 7th grade activities.
“Many students can’t afford a class trip to Epcot Center,” says Roby Love, one of the garage sale’s biggest supporters. Love is the site manager for the Harborview Road Extra Space facility. Extra Space donates to the garage sale every year, donating a large self-storage unit to hold all the donations.
“We could not do it without Extra Space Storage,” said Davis. “The local staff is extremely helpful – they go out of their way to help.”
Extra Space also collects donations from its tenants at its monthly auction/lien sale (at a lien sale, people buy the contents of abandoned units sight unseen, and sometimes end up with items that they do not want or need). Last year, Love says, Extra Space filled the donated unit with donations and then had to donate another

There is no way to express the importance of accreditation for online education. When a school is accredited, that means it has been recognized by an accrediting institution (which itself is recognized by the United States Department of Education) based on a specific set of criteria. With peer reviews and professional qualifications, these accrediting bodies determine the legitimacy of online schools based on factors such as curriculum, admission requirements, faculty, mission, school resources and much more.
Why You Should Care About Accreditation for Your Online Education
Schools are not required to be accredited, and accrediting agencies are typically private organizations. So why should you care about the accreditation of your online education program? Well, there are several reasons, which will be explained further below.
The fact that your education might not qualify you for any good jobs should make you stop and listen. If you get a degree or certificate from an online school that isnt accredited, chances are that most potential employers you apply to work for will not find your education sufficient. Unfortunately, some employers might also question the validity of an online degree, but with accreditation, there is legitimate proof that your learning experience was just as valid as someone who attended classes on a campus.
If you are ever going to continue your education or you think that you could possibly switch schools at some point in the future, you definitely want to make sure the online school youre going to now is accredited. The credits earned from an unaccredited school will more than likely not transfer to any other legitimate educational institution.
The U.S. Department of Education cares.
Like many college students, you probably plan on filling out a FAFSA and applying for federal student aid, ranging from grants and scholarships to subsidized loans and work
For over two hundred years, distance learning has been a means of gaining education for those who, for whatever reason, elect to study from their home. Beginning with the first correspondence courses that were offered through advertisements in newspapers and magazines, and later also marketed on the backs of matchbook covers, through to the vast amount of distance learning opportunities currently offered by both universities and by independent schools, the chance to broaden ones knowledge without having to attend a physical school has offered academic independence to millions of students of all ages, across all areas of study.
Regardless of what the program is, and what sort of education it provides, whether it is a home school for children in middle school, a specialized upgrade class for someone in a trade or a masters program, distance learning can be broken into two mostly separate, but sometimes overlapping categories: online courses and correspondence classes.
Correspondence courses, which are the traditional method of providing distance education, make use of the postal system to distribute learning materials to the student. While there is usually a firm final date by which all activities and assignments must be completed and handed in, the actual course scheduling is left open, for the student to design according tot their needs. Correspondence courses may make use of materials that use technology, such as learning videos, and students nowadays typically use a computer for word processing and more often than not, for submitting their work via email as well, traditional correspondence courses do not rely upon technology for distribution or actual work completion or submission. Student study and work independently, even though there are likely to be many other students studying the same program. Group assignments and classes are not part of this type of distance learning, as
